The argument continues among the puppet watchers…who is better? eBay, Amazon, Bonanzle, eTsy? On and on. Some will kill you over what your favorite one is. It really is a silly argument in 2009, this is a brand NEW world and sellers need to get a clue or you will be left behind in the new world of marketing on the internet.

The brand is NO LONGER the platform you use to sell on, the brand now is YOU. You are the new brand marketer for your products. eBay, Amazon, Bonanazle and all the others are fighting over a constantly shirking market. At some point, it will no longer exist.

What happened with the record industry, the TV industry and even the Web portal industry (like AOL of old) is NOW taking its chip at the internet marketing platforms. They no longer “control” the buying public’s behaviors. The days of being the favorite “shopping portal” is going the way of the covered wagon. Just look at the declines in traffic on shopping portals like Shopping.com, Bizrate, PriceGrabber, etc.

When will this tipping point happen? I propose that it has already begun. YOU now have just as much juice as any platform with the RIGHT marketing strategy.  What was a closed box of high tech platforms plus payment server backend can be done with so little as a FREE WordPress blog and a plug in!

What that means folks is that the control of traffic to your products and brand is now in your hands. So what are YOU going to do with it? You going to use it for yourself or piss it away playing cheerleader? The decision is yours and you alone.

All this week, I am going to be releasing some educational calls that I have secured for us to listen to the BEST of the BEST tell you and me how to position ourselves for SUCCESS! The FIRST one will be release TOMORRO January 26th and NOON est on ColderICE.com!

Welcome to web 2.0, the freedom of “Brand New is BRAND YOU” This will EXPLAIN why both eBay and Amazon are so dead set again your doing any branding on their platforms. It is all about the loss of buyer behavior they KNOW is happening in a web 2.0 world.

Instead of embracing the change they are ALL trying to put Pandora back in the box. Silly wabbit, look at what happened to aforementioned industries above when they refused to embrace the change.

  1. Once again John you have hit the nail on the head. These shopping “Malls” online are just that…malls …and your store, booth, whatever is YOURS…no different than a brick and mortar mall with YOUR shop inside it. If you are relying on the “mall” to bring you ALL of your sales…it just wont happen. You have got to get your Brand out there! It is up to YOU to make it work.

Now THAT makes SENSE. Absolutely forward thinking at its best.Negativity, forgetaboutit, positive all the way .
Self reliance and being positive and being persistent is the stuff of “Think and Grow Rich” ,written 90 years ago and still holds true today.I say back to basics and full steam ahead.

  3. Hey John,

I have to say that BizRate and Pricegrabber work extremely well for us. In fact, on that graph you have, you can see that the only SCE that has really lost traffic is Shopping.com, which of course is owned by the lovely folks over at eBay. How unexpected. You would therefore probably not be the least bit surprised to learn that, of those three, shopping.com has by far done the worst for us.

Your website is a powerful tool. Just like eBay, Amazon, and SCE’s. You can use SCE’s to brand yourself, just watch your numbers and, if you are new to SCE’s, my advice would be to stay far away from shopping.com

    Keep on rockin’

    -Stefan
