While Rome is BURNING, The Auctiva “Emperor” Claims it is ALL GOOD?!?
I just got a call from the ecommerce coaching “master” Dwight Miller about this unbelievable situation. And though I am typing about it, it is much easier for me to talk about it. So Mr. Miller just did an interview with me over this emerging situation and POSSIBLE down stream impacts that can go to tens of thousand of eBay ads!

The more I dig, the worse it seems to get. Now the President of Auctiva, Jeff Schlicht jumps on AuctionBytes to claim all is “good”. He also suggests in the statement that…
“The safest thing to do for users now is to make sure they have their virus detection turned on and updated to be safe. Of course they should be doing that anyway. We’ve fixed the issue and been going through every server, around 200, and running detection and haven’t found anything."
So that is what he has to offer? OMG, I just think that is so lame, but maybe that is just me?!? Thanks man…NOT
Auctiva immediately took the infected servers out of rotation, wiped the Operating Software on those servers, and reloaded them and put them back online around 3 pm on Saturday.
While my research on Google shows that just 5 hours ago Google was still finding malicious content! And not only that…Since I started reporting this story, the count of malicious content has gone UP not DOWN dude, WTF?
Malicious content has gone UP! Google diagnostics from 5 hours ago now reports:
Malicious software includes 9 scripting exploit(s), 7 trojan(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 9 new processes on the target machine.
I am keeping an eye as this whole thing develops, but to me it seem that this is far from a done deal. I could be wrong but that remain to be seen.

John, auctiva could have millions of listings live on Ebay not thousands…this could be a bigger problem for ebay than Auctiva. With Listings already at an all time low, Ebay can not afford to have 3rd party issues and lose more listings!
Yeah, I agree, you are right! I just felt a little too uncomfortable saying millions, but I would have to agree with you George.
I do see eBay having to do some damage control at some point cause they are being HEAVILY effected by this I am sure. We ALL are in some form or another, if that is the case.
I can’t believe that the president of Auctiva was laughing about all of this.
It’s now 4:45 EST here and the problem is still there.
I am totally disappointed in Auctiva’s handling of the seriousness of this situation and will not be a returning customer once (if) it’s fixed.
Ohio Ebay Seller/Buyer
that phone call is hectic… i can’t believe how glib they are being about this whole thing! ebay will lose millions, sellers collectively will lose millions, and auctiva will have little impact on their business (aside from click through, but all the sub based stuff will roll on as normal)
I can’t see what’s going on. I did a Google search for Auctiva and I don’t see what you are showing.????
Here is what Google says now. You guys are good at yelling FIRE, but not letting people know when it goes out.
