Spam

Dude, I can not tell you how much I hate spam in my mailbox! I simply do not like it and NEVER have. So you would not believe how pissed off I was to wake up this morning and see that the "so called" communication site of the professionals spamming my inbox, WTF?!?

So now, I am being FORCE feed, crappy offers of targeted spam, based on the sensitive "business" information I give to LinkedIn. And in turn, those interests and the information is used by LinkedIN so they can choose to spam me with my INBOX. Yep, LinkedIN has made a way to completely get around the FTC rules of the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.

The CAN-SPAM is short for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, it establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, spells out penalties for spammers and companies whose products are advertised in spam if they violate the law, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop spamming them.

Well, I guess LinkedIN found a way to say screw that law, they will just make their own system, with its own "InBox" and spam that one when ever they feel like it! Here is the cute little spam add they sent on behalf of Direct TV.

So if you notice that they put a little disclaimer over there in the right that says… "Why did I receive this message?"9-3-2009 2-41-46 AMI find this interesting that they tell me WHY they are spamming me, but the do NOT tell you how to STOP the spam mail? There is no way to stop it. So I guess the new business model for revenue at the offices of LinkedIN will be SPAM. Is this going to be the future of social networking? Uncontrolled spam circa 2002? I say HELL NO, we won’t go!

Oh BTW, did I mention that I hate spam? LMAO!

  • John, not so sure they're circumventing anything.

I think one of the prime concerns of the ACT was to stifle spam being SENT to a user's INBOX. And a vital concept contained in that is the act of "transmission".

They're not sending this to you, you're going to their home to pick it up.
No law against that, I think. (yet)
  • Oh man, I didn't read closely enough, I didn't realize you were talking spam from LinkedIn itself. Haven't seen that yet, but I guess I will.
  • Yup, I was really trying to get into LinkedIn a few months ago and this was a big turn off. NO! I do not want wholesale opportunities in China, and if I did I'd find them myself, thank you!

It just makes me use the site less and I would assume the same is true for others.
