I Adore Liz Strauss and HATE The Health Care Debate!

Hi John, I couldn't help but to comment. I don't know Liz but of course wish her a quick recovery myself. I feel for her situation and I am sure there are many self employed people out there without health insurance.

But I really don't understand the last paragraph in your post: "Liz is NOT an illegal alien, unwed teen mother, she does NOT live in a trailer park and she is NOT a socialist…". Are you saying that people in those categories do not deserve health insurance - even if they are willing to pay for it? Then what you mean is that she is a person that is economically fit, has a job, house, car,... then why not HEALTH INSURANCE? Health insurance should be in everyone's monthly budget just like those lattes. By the way, my insurance cost me less then those freaking lattes.

I agree there are situations where it is way too expensive or complicated to get coverage. But I also know people that would rather drive a nice car, eat in nice restaurants, etc... at the cost of not having health insurance. I am self employed and signed up for the emergency coverage for that reason - emergencies. It does not cost a lot but even if it did cost a little more - can you afford not to have it? Do you really need 2 cars, house with a pool, air conditioning bill of $400/month, cable, etc...

Not to get carried away - my point was that the last paragraph in you post made no sense. Anyone with a desire to have insurance should be allowed to have it if they are willing to pay for it.

I would ask every uninsured person for their financial statements to really prove that they REALLY can not afford any coverage - I think we'd be in for a surprise.

Anyways, John - love your site - tons of great up to date and valuable info. Thanks for the time and effort you put into it.

Thanks for the comment LOU and I guess I should really explain my "rant" at
the end. What I am really trying to convey here is that when the argument
about health care is put out there, people think that only those groups are
in need of it. There is alot of hate mongers that will rile up masses
against the health care debate using arguments about illegal aliens (i.e.
the "you lie" comments to the President) or that it is only a ploy for the
poor.

I just feel and know many who are in business for themselves who simply can
not afford FULL coverage due to pre-existing conditions or circumstances.
Some with this TOUGH economy its forcing them to reduce or remove some
coverage or making them take second jobs, just to get coverage.

So I think the debate is "stuck on stupid" and the arguments against it are
not fairly weighted in the reality that I see. I see those of us who are
self employed that can afford it. I don't hear our voice in the arguments at
all.

John, I figured there was something else you meant by your comment. I strongly agree that the health care issue goes way beyond the targeted/singled out groups. I believe that if you want to call any country a modern and developed - the health care needs to be viewed as RIGHT not as a PRIVILEGE.

I agree that pre-existing conditions are nonsense. It is just a nice way of saying - you are not a good business for us. Health care is treated as a business venture - profits before people.

And yes, not many people that are able to get health coverage get deeply involved in the debate. After all we have jobs and work to do - and we hired others to make sure our interests are represented - I believe we call them politicians.

Few of us see what is happening out there - but the majority of people are absolutely blind, ignorant and uninformed - the always mighty majority. I personally know people like this - rich, poor, educated, not educated, successful or not - one thing I learned - STUPIDITY does not discriminate :-)

I remember a long time ago I asked my employer (owner) a personal question: "Honestly who buys our overpriced, mediocre outdated services?" He smiled and said: "Lou; it is the stupid people we make money on, not the smart ones". The American dream - boy how many companies I know like this.

One thing I try to incorporate in my business that might work for any government. TRY to learn and implement things from other cultures and countries. If they work and can help me in the long run - I don't care where they come from. Why reinvent the wheel - use what works and perfect it. No shame in that. People who are against any issues that sounds like socialism - I bet they really have no idea what they are talking about. Whole other topic.
