Check out some of the recent improvements made to Google Product Search in the last week or so. Google Product Search is now in beta, but it is far and away the best in search right now of all the platforms!

Before I delve into the video which will detail these advancement I want to point out something about the pages. If you first go to Google.com and then hit the Shopping section in the upper right navigation you will see the following logo…

11-30-2009 9-30-14 AMOk, everybody with me? So we are looking at "Product Search" …. but lets go to the next step and just put something (anything) into the search there and please hit search. Now on the search results page you get this logo…

11-30-2009 9-33-18 AMNow for all of us "tin foil hat Google prophets" (yes, I am talking about you too Scot Wingo) there is an interesting dropping of the word "search" here. So we are actually no longer just "searching for products" NO…we are now on "Google Products"….Who’s products? Google Products! Watch out, the Google train is about the leave the station, eh?

Well, now on to the other parts here in this article. Let’s look at the major innovation that Google is making in their product display. Remembering for us ecommerce merchants what is key is that when Google created search…all the other search engines emulated it. When Google made Ads, all the other ad platforms emulated it. So with this line of thinking, I feel that if Google makes product search, ULTIMATLY all good ecommerce design will begin to emulate it. So I am watching this CLOSELY and so should all of you. If you want to know how the design of future ecommerce shopping will evolve, watch the leader and emulate!
