walking_with_dinosaurs There is a reason why the dinosaurs are extinct. That reason still remains a mystery to noted scientist. But my guess is, they just were no longer "relevant". Hence, we are now watching a new brontosaurus being removed from the planet…I hope…Newspapers!

Newspapers are NOT a sustainable product so I am not a fan of "reading the rainforest" every morning with coffee. So the question becomes, how many trees does it take to print a newspaper?

A: It really all depends on the size of the tree. According to paper manufacturer Boise Cascade, however, a cord of wood (wood stacked 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, or 128 cubic feet) produces nearly 90,000 sheets of paper or 2,700 copies of a 35-page newspaper!

While the transition from paper deliver to electronic deliver will bring some short term sacrifice and of course job loss, I am confident that Journalism will prevail and good writers will ALWAYS be in demand.

Here is a look and the extinction of an industry from the past…

After mornings of reading all the great blog post in our industry via email and rss feeds, I started to share all the good ones. What I thought was cool about Twitter was the ability to share my best stories.  At the same time, I was creating a nice mini-blog roll of all the URLs that I wanted so I could review them again later.

This concept blew up and I found more stories that I could keep handy using my Twitter account (have to show u how I do that one day too). So I decided to set up a new account and share it with others and they would share what they found to add to the roll. This has worked out pretty good. So let me show you how I use the Morning Papers for researching industry topics!

Today, I was driving down the street and saw a “going out of business” auction sign. I just had to do a u-turn and see what all the fuss was about. You may see many more of this type of business auctions going on this year and next year as things slow down.

Now, I know how unfortunate it is for business owners to fall victim to this hard economy and unless you make SUV gas guzzling oversize family tanks in Detroit, they may not get a government bailout :-)

But you can help them out by attending the auctions and help your self as well! Check the local papers for announcements and plan on attending one or two, you may be shocked by what you can acquire!
